Buildscape is a web-based software system which has been developed to assist South African construction companies to effectively manage projects that are signed under the Joint Building Contracts Committee (JBCC) Series 2000 Principal Building Agreement.
The JBCC was established in
1997 and since then, its Series 2000 contract has been widely adopted by
private industry as well as national and provincial state sectors.

The main feature that distinguishes Buildscape from similar collaborative systems is that it has been specifically written in South Africa for JBCC and considers and incorporates all its major processes.
Being calendar based, Buildscape tracks due dates and progress, issues reminders, and short-cuts the production of standard contract communiqué.
In particular, Buildscape allows a contractor to streamline the following JBCC Series 2000 processes:
- Claiming for delays and revisions of the date of practical completion.
- Administering monthly payment cycles and interim payments.
- Motivating for adjustments to the contract value
- Managing the completion process
- Dealing with the receipt of contract instructions and drawings.

Buildscape has many other features
which assist with managing a construction project. Its electronic document
store extends beyond drawings and contract instructions and includes items such
as meeting minutes and site diary entries.
A shared calendar can be used for
scheduling meetings, tracking holidays and shortcutting to important documents. An electronic contract bulletin board allows team members to post actions or notices to each other, while a full set of reports can be accessed to assist with daily tasks and monthly reviews.
The time and cost saving achieved by implementing Buildscape allows contract team members to spend less time in the office dealing with administrative matters and in turn more time managing the building site.
